• Regularly Scheduled Plan: This storm damage reduction project aligns with the area’s scheduled beach nourishment plan, which involves placing sand on the beaches every eight years to combat erosion and maintain beach health.
• Emergency Rehabilitation: The current phase builds upon the previous year’s emergency funding project, where North Myrtle, Garden City, and Surfside Beaches received 1.3 million cubic yards of sand after Hurricane Matthew. The ongoing three-phase project is funded through federal emergency beach rehabilitation funding, supplemented by additional contributions from Congress and local governments.
