Maintenance Dredging AIWW – Jacksonville, FL

W912EP-18-C-0022

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The project removed 600,000 cubic yards of sand from the AIWW, restoring the channel to a 12 foot depth. Dredged sand from the channel was beach quality sand.

The beach quality material pumped from the AIWW is being placed on the beach near the southern park boundary.

Dredging operations, performed by Southwind Construction Corporation, ran 24 hours/7 days a week, weather permitting.

The majority of the excavated material will be placed in the Amelia Island State Park beach disposal site. The pumping distance between dredging areas and beach placement ranges from 4.0 miles to 1.5 miles. The remainder of the material is not beach compatible and will be placed upland in DMMA DU-2 which lies adjacent to the dredging area.
