DMCA 14H & 14B – Savannah, GA

W912DS-18-C-0013

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Savannah Harbor Dredge Material Containment Area (DMCA) 14A will be used primarily for storage of the naturally occurring cadmium containing materials that will be excavated during Deeping of the Savannah River.

Construction three water control weir structures within the DMCA 14A/14B cross dike, the addition of a new bonneted knife gate valve to the outfall pipe of weir 14B4 in the eastern most portion of DMCA 14B, the temporary closure of three existing weirs along the back dike of DMCA 14B, and the construction of a berm across DMCA 14B from the outfall of the new weirs to weir 14B4. The addition of the weirs in the DMCA 14A/14B cross dike will allow for excess dredge water to pass through DMCA 14B for discharge into the surrounding water ways.

The addition of the new bonneted knife gate valve and temporary closure of the remaining DMCA 14B weirs will ensure that no excess water is released until it meets water quality standards. The construction of the berm will separate the area within DMCA 14B needed to discharge excess dredge water from the remainder of the DMCA.
